Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE is a welcome return to the theatrical, puzzle-driven style of Danganronpa, but with a fully 3D world to explore. You play as Yuma, an amnesiac detective trainee, and Shinigami, a spirit who helps you enter the Mystery Labyrinth - a surreal dimension where case evidence turns into physical obstacles. The writing is sharp and the cast of Master Detectives is memorable, each with unique supernatural abilities. The city of Kanai Ward is dense with NPCs and side secrets, rewarding thorough investigation. Combat inside the labyrinth involves dodging lies and slashing through contradictions with the Solution Blade, which feels more active than the courtroom debates of Danganronpa. The voice acting in both Japanese and English is excellent, and Masafumi Takada's soundtrack sets a moody, cinematic tone. On the downside, the story is strictly linear, so there is little reason to replay after the credits.
